News:: Get to know Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown at Gamescom

Gamescom is kicking off, and right away a new announcement's hitting me like a QAAM locked onto my heart. That's right, I'm talking about the next Ace Combat game, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, and it's full of the loveliest nonsense that I sorely missed.

Bandai Namco's new trailer, visible below, packs in the philosophizing, earnest questions, and the kind of sci-fi geopolitical ridiculousness that's enough to give Metal Gear and Gundam fans the warm jollies.

Lucky Europeans will be able to check out the game, and some of its bespoke PlayStation VR features on the show floor, as well. It's going to be a long wait until 2018.

All we need now is an overpriced pack of Tekken or Idolm@ster skins.

News:: Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3's prequel DLC misses out on the 2.5 moniker

I'm not sure if the internet even remembers that Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 actually released this year, but discussions on the game were usually limited to its obscene loading times. Whether or not that has gotten fixed isn't on the cards for today, because we have far more pressing things to talk about! Mainly, how the hell did we transition from Ghost Warrior 2 to 3? Why not have some DLC to explain that gap?!

Free for season pass owners (which was offered free with pre-orders), "The Sabotage" stars the brother of the main character from 3 and features his battle against the rise of the 23 Society. It will feature a brand new map with new weapons, vehicles and missions. Hooray!

News:: (Update) Here are a few places you can pre-order the SNES Classic

[Update: Here are some direct links to places that have put up their first round of pre-orders. Several outlets have sold out of their initial allotment, classic Nintendo! You can save the bookmarks and try again as more stock comes in. Call your GameStop as well, as some are doing in-store pre-orders today and still have units left. Good luck!]

Nintendo has done it again. They announced a piece of hardware that broke the internet -- a follow-up for the NES Mini -- the SNES Mini.

But this time a lot of prospective buyers are a little more fanatical about the whole affair thanks to the reveal that Star Fox 2, a game that's never been released in an official capacity, will be loaded on it. That, and the lineup in general is far more fierce than its NES predecessor -- we're talking multiple "all time greats" here.

So where can you pre-order it? Nowhere at the moment, but a few placeholders are up and ready for your F5 key. Best Buy usually sells out of Nintendo hardware quickly, Amazon doesn't typically list anything Nintendo until day zero, and Walmart is low key one of the easiest places to pre-order. We'll add more as additional listings pop up.

News:: Squirting commences in September with Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash

Prepare for bikinis, beaches and blazing hot sunshine this Autumn as Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash will be landing on the PS4, in Europe and Australia, September 22.

The arena shooter sees the endless cast of the Senran Kagura series battle it out in a host of super-subtle water fights, taking time out to indulge in mini-games that have all the tasteful nuance of a sledgehammer to the nose-bridge.

There are a host of bonuses available for pre-order, for both digital and physical versions, including, costumes, weapons and soundtracks. There's also a "Girls of Paradise" limited edition release, containing all DLC bonuses, alongside a Blu-Ray of the series' introduction sequences and an art book. Jesting aside, it's actually a pretty good set for the die-hard fan.

Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash, will be made available in Europe and Australia, digitally and in stores, September 22nd. The "Girls of Paradise" set can be pre-ordered directly at the Marvelous Games store, for £60.

News:: Super Saiyan Goku statue highlights Dragon Ball FighterZ's CollectorZ Edition

Man, if I pre-ordered every game I would have quite a collection of statues. This Goku diorama would be one of my favorites though, if I had the money and space for them all.

Standing at 18cm, Super Saiyan Goku loads himself inside a collectors box with a colorful steelbook case and three art boards for the Dragon Ball FighterZ CollectorZ Edition. One of three art boards features Androids 17 and 18, but the other two appear to be mystery cards potentially different in each case? The tweet below mentions the CollecterZ Edition is for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, so in all likelihood PC users are out of luck.

News:: Techland announces their next game, God's Trigger

Developer Techland (primarily known as the developers behind Dying Light and the original Dead Island) have announced their next game in the form of God's Trigger.

According to Techland, the game will be a “bloodbath of apocalyptic proportions" with a strong emphasis on co-op teamwork, featuring the odd-ball team of an angel and demon-lady who are looking to defeat the four horsemen of the apocalypse. (You know, before they accomplish the whole apocalypse-thing).

News:: New pirate ship level and Bubble Blaster weapon coming free to Splatoon 2

At Gamescom 2017, Nintendo has announced free new content for Splatoon 2 including the Bubble Blaster weapon, a pirate ship-themed level called "Manta Maria," and a new Salmon Run level titled "Lost Outpost."

Pirates are the best. I like to pretend I have pirate blood in me since I'm from south Florida where there is at least some pirate history, not far from the Caribbean. Now if I can save up to buy a Switch and Splatoon 2 I can pretend to be a pirate squid.

News:: SNES-inspired 3DS XL hits Europe in October

Miss out on the SNES Classic pre-orders that went up (and promptly sold out) overnight? Nintendo has a consolation prize for you. Sort of. The storied game-maker will release a Super Nintendo-themed 3DS XL this October 13th. There's a catch though: It'll only be available in Europe. As Polygon notes, last year Japan got a Super Famicom-styled 3DS XL, and it still hasn't made its way to our shores. But given that the Super Famicom itself was exclusive to Japan, that makes sense. The same can't be said for the SNES one. We've reached out to Nintendo for more information and will update this post should it arrive.

News:: Fire Emblem Warriors gets Euro date, limited edition and new trailer

All sorts of good news hit today for European Fire Emblem Warriors fans. First, Nintendo have announced a date for the game to hit Euro shores, this has been followed up with the reveal of a cosy Limited Edition set for the continent, and finally, a new trailer appeared to further whet appetites.

The humble, but still very cool, limited edition will include the Switch game, a collection of character art cards, and three CDs featuring the game's original soundtrack. It will be released in Europe, alongside the standard edition of the game, on October 20. This is just shy of a month after Warriors' Japanese release. How times have changed at Nintendo regarding localisation dates. In this case at any rate.

The new trailer, revealed at Gamescom, adds Camilla, Leo, Hinoka, and Takumi to the cast of characters, geared for battle, when Fire Emblem Warriors launches this Autumn on Nintendo Switch and New 3DS.

News:: 'Final Fantasy XV' comes to your phone this fall

Square Enix is bent on bringing Final Fantasy XV to every platform imaginable, and that includes the phone in your pocket. It just unveiled a Pocket Edition of the road trip role-playing game that will hit Android, iOS and Windows 10 (yes, despite its dwindling influence) this fall. Its first episode will be free to play, while you'll have to fork out an unspecified amount to continue the tale of Noctis and crew. The title includes the "main story" and characters, but don't expect a carbon copy of the game you can buy on your console.

News:: The Takeover coming to Nintendo Switch

The Takeover is a side-scrolling beat-‘em-up in the vein of Streets of Rage and Double Dragon: Neon. It looks stylish as hell, and the Switch is severely lacking within the genre. The system is absolutely perfect for this kind of stuff too! By default, you always have two controllers with you, so I’m pretty damn excited to hear any news of more local multiplayer titles hitting the platform.

No official release date has been revealed, but, according to the game's Twitter account, we can look forward to kicking some ass on the Switch sometime in the future. If you're feeling impatient, it's also currently available on Steam as a part of their Early Access program.

News:: Reddit user photographs total eclipse with Game Boy Camera

Yesterday's total eclipse was quite the sight for U.S. citizens. Thousands of people gathered to watch the solar event, all wearing those special glasses to prevent their retinas from being obliterated. Well, almost all.

Whilst photographers the world-over rigged up expensive monster cameras to catch a awe-inspiring shot of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Reddit user "zhx" simply dug out their Game Boy Camera to record the occasion.

“The sun itself is a very small part of the picture," writes zhx. "The dark circle is just a crazy halo effect. No filter either. I didn’t even get a pair of glasses to look at it; had to kinda wing it.”

Once the photo was taken, it was seemingly the biggest chore to get the photo off of the '90s device to be uploaded to the internet, including the use of a Mega Memory and a Game Boy pocket, before finally releasing the oddly foreboding image to the world.

"If I’m living my life right," zhx continues. "I should still be shooting Game Boy Camera photos in 2024."

News:: Meet Lola Pop, you're new favorite ARMS fighter

Arms starting line-up of characters felt a bit small, but they're making up for it with new, free downloadable characters like Max Brass. Now we get a sweets-loving girl dressed somewhat like a clown with inflatable pants that would make MC Hammer proud. Joining her is the sugary level shown in her debut trailer and three new arms in next new free update, Version 3.0.

I also like playing troll characters like Dampiere in Soul Calibur V, but I don't know if she is quite on that level yet. In any case I'm a sucker for sweets themed levels and characters, even if I don't actually eat that many sweets in real life.

News:: 'State of Decay 2' forces you to pick who becomes zombie food

State of Decay 2 wants you to decide who lives or dies -- and whatever happens next. The sequel aims to double-down on what made the 2013 original work: a more sophisticated game world, and bothy more elaborate skill trees and settlements, whether that's medical facilities or just better zombie-deflecting defences. The invasion may be delayed, but you'll be in charge of your own survival when it finally hits in 2018. I got to see the game in action here at Gamescom, and if you've ever wanted alternative to The Walking Dead where anyone and (nearly) everyone could die, this is for you.

News:: No SNES Classics left? Have a SNES-themed 3DS XL instead

Nintendo have revealed a new 3DS variant to add to their ongoing collection of weird and wonderful designs. This time around based on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)

The handheld device's clamshell casing is stylised in the form of the European and Japanese (ie better) design of the 16-bit machine. Even cooler, the A,B,Y and X buttons on the inside are coloured to match the console's original controller.

The Nintendo 3DS XL: SNES Edition launches in Europe on October 13.

News:: Overwatch's D.Va is getting some tweaks, and a new ability

Like any competitive game Overwatch is due for character reworks and alterations from time to time, and D.Va is up next on the block. In a thread discussing potential changes to D.Va as requested by fans, Principal Designer Geoff Goodman kind of just popped in and said "oh yeah we're making significant changes, here they are." Given how big the game is, it's surprising to see the team be this hands-on with the community -- even more so than any other Blizzard team.

So what are those changes? Well her Defense Matrix is being nerfed with a higher energy drain (around 50%), but she can also use her core weapons while hovering, and gains a new ability -- Micro Missiles. Depending on how effective this power is, she might actually be more of a threat rather than functioning as a disruptor or meat shield. A new PTR will be on the way to test these changes out "soon."

Overwatch has been out for over a year at this point, so it's nice to see a staple launch character shaken up like this. We'll see how it pans out, but for now I'm hopeful that she'll be more fun to play. Right now her winrate is hovering on the high side with a high popularity level in competitive play, so these changes make even more sense from that perspective.

News:: Review: White Day: A Labyrinth Named School

A game so scary players emailed the developers imploring they make it less frightening so they can beat it, or even horrifying enough to drive them to suicide? Such stories developed around this game similar to the mythical Polybius arcade game. The former I still see posted around the web, with people citing the emails as the reason multiple difficulty levels were created with different amounts of scares, the latter not so much.

I could not find definitive proof that either was true, but with those stories and a lack of a release outside South Korea, White Day: A Labyrinth Named School developed a cult following and gained a reputation as one of the scariest games (somewhat) available at the time despite being relatively unheard of. Now it's not only been given a full, official localization treatment including English voice-overs, but the game has been remade with new semi-modern graphics and animations.

News:: You can buy Nintendo games with Paypal now

PayPal has been on the Xbox One and PS4 stores since day one of each, but so far, Nintendo users haven't had the option. That has changed, though, as Nintendo says that Switch owners can now pay for games with PayPal directly on the console's eShop or at its web store. Wii U and 3DS owners, meanwhile, can't use PayPal directly from their consoles, but can use the payment service to buy games from Nintendo's online store.
