News::Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Review SledgeHammer Makes the Right Move (NuzCo)

When Call of Duty Advanced Warfare was announced, it was not a surprise. The direction of the game seemed new which lightened some players hearts where others may not have been so gung-ho on jumping aboard this years Call of Duty trend again. As a skeptical player, it was a mystery if the game even seemed somewhat appealing after the series seemed to have lost its touch a few years ago.

News::Crossy Road is Frogger for a new generation

I'm not one to get into mobile gaming but every few months something comes along and enough friends and peers tweet about it that I feel compelled to join them, if only for a day.

Crossy Road , a sort of isometric, voxel-y, infinite take on Frogger, is the latest title to join my iPhone library due to peer pressure. The fact that it's free to play (or should I say, "free to get") made it hard to turn down. Here, you tap or swipe to hop, and once a car flattens you, or a train sends you flying, or you miss landing on a log and drown in a river, it's back to the beginning.

Except the beginning is ever changing. Crossy Road is a high score game, and to earn one, you'll need to learn which vehicles move at which speeds and know your limitations. I try to move in short, rapid bursts -- several jumps forward at a time -- but often become too aggressive for my own good. There are tempting, dangerously-placed coins to collect, too. Damn those coins.

You can spend them on a gashapon machine that dispenses new characters at random. I unlocked animals like a horse and a turtle, but what I really want is the cool robot. I could buy him with real money (I won't) or watch ads to earn extra coins (I won't). Which is fine. It's easy to play Crossy Road without spending anything or feeling pressured to do so. Sorry, robot.

In my struggle to reach a three-digit score, I began to wonder why our streets aren't permanently lined with roadkill. Even from a high-up viewpoint, weaving in and out of traffic is tricky business. Poor critters. After seeing some great runs like this, I've decided to retire early.

News::Grand Theft Auto 5 now UK's best-selling game ever

Eurogamer: "Grand Theft Auto 5 is now the best-selling game of all time in the UK. Rockstar's open world was already close to the previous record holder, 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops, which it finally overtook this week thanks to the arrival of its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.1 GTA5 already held the record for the highest-grossing UK game in a week (£94m upon its original launch last year) and of all time. Unsurprisingly, it's also the UK's new all-format chart number one."

News::Assassin's Creed Rogue review - Gameplanet

GP: "Even as Ubisoft stumbles over itself to patch its bug-ridden new-gen flagship, Assassin's Creed: Unity, the Assassin's Creed juggernaut rolls ever onwards with yet another instalment, this one for the previous console generation. The good news is, Assassin's Creed: Rogue is a stable, finished game that runs smoothly and looks very nice on the older consoles. The bad news? Aside from a somewhat superficial and slightly gimmicky change in protagonist, it is decidedly lacking in new ideas. It is packed to the brim with the best bits of previous games, but without adding anything new to the pot, players will have to decide if there's enough here to make them fork out for yet another Creed game."

News::Assassin's Creed Unity Review - Thesixthaxis

Thesixthaxis: "Unity has a lot to live up to after last years entry into the series. Black Flag came along with a drastic but very welcome change to the usual city-scaling and face-stabbing formula in the form of naval warfare. Taken from Assassins Creed 3 and expanded, the piracy aspect of Black Flag was excellently realised and breathed a new life into a formula that had begun to grow a little stale. It seems a little strange that Ubisoft have dropped the ships entirely for the first current generation only entry in the series then, instead focusing on a huge, dense recreation of Paris with gameplay far more similar to that found in previous games with significant improvements."
